I'm launching my newsletter.....imperfectly, on purpose

Hi Reader

I encourage my students to speak English before they're fully confident, because trying is better than waiting for a perfect moment. Progress > perfection (Newsflash: you will never feel 100% ready!)

So, without feeling 100% ready, I'm launching my newsletter to practise what I teach.

Thanks for joining me for the ride, Reader. I want to write real, human content that makes you excited to learn and helps you in your journey to fluency because the world doesn't need more AI content or inauthentic messages filling our inbox.

Once a month, I'll be sprinkling your day with a little bit of pink and practical tips to boost your English. Expect quick updates from Mega Language Coach and real resources to support your learning journey... short and sweet, because your time is valuable.

Tip of the month

This month, I've been focussing a lot on pronunciation with many clients, particularly the vowel sounds which are not always said as they are written. Notice the difference between the short /i/, and the long /i:/ sound in many English words.

Practice the difference by saying the following pairs out loud, and see how your mouth shape changes:

  • hill vs heal
  • rid vs read
  • fill vs feel
  • lick vs leak
  • bit vs beat

June 2025

What I spoke about:

"How To Be Confident Using English At Work" guest podcast episode

(suitable for all learners)

What I wrote about:

"British English vs American English: Divided by a common language"

(for advanced learners)

What I recommend:

  • "Interesting Stories about Curious Words" by Susie Dent (perfect for language nerds like me!)
  • "We Can Do Hard Things" podcast (great for beginners if you slow down playing speed)

You will improve your English by practicing regularly and immersing yourself in the language as much as possible. Find a method that suits your schedule and interests, to find the joy in learning.

Coaching corner

A moment for quiet reflection or journalling, even just thinking about your answers can help you notice patterns and shift your focus.

When do you feel most confident using English at work? When do you feel least confident?

Stay tuned for more tips, videos, client stories, podcast episodes, travel reflections, language disasters and everything inbetween! Hit reply and tell me what you're learning at the moment.

P.S In my lessons, I create a safe, welcoming space for feedback and suggestions, and I want the same for this newsletter. Let me know what you'd love to see more (or less) of. I’m listening.

"Where are you from, Reader?" It’s a simple question on the surface, but for many of us with international lives, it’s anything but straightforward. Do I say the country I was born in, the one on my passport, or the city I currently call home? Do I define myself by the languages I speak, the cultures I’ve absorbed, or the people I’ve connected with along the way? I’ve never felt like I fully belonged to one box, one label, or one place. Instead, my identity is shaped by movement, curiosity,...

Hi Reader Writing this newsletter has got the ABBA soundtrack on repeat in my head, so apologies in advance (it's always sunny in a rich man's world!) January is often a time when people set resolutions and focus on their financial goals for the upcoming year. Maybe language learning becomes less of a priority, as you start to tighten your belt (see explanation below). So if you’ve ever wondered what language coaching actually means and why it may cost more than language lessons, here’s a...

Hi Reader Where on earth did this year go? One moment I was watching new year fireworks on a beach in Mexico, the next I'm looking for batteries for my childhood Christmas decorations back in the UK! Whilst it's easy to look ahead and make goals for next year, I like to take time in December to look back and reflect on the highs and lows of the year. Today I'm sharing some of my statistics with you, and would love you to get involved by replying with yours too. 2025 language learning (this...
